Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina's 2nd district since 2001, recently expressed his views on foreign policy matters through a series of tweets. His remarks touched upon economic sanctions against Iran and the geopolitical situation in Syria.

On March 6, 2025, Wilson conveyed his approval of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's statement regarding actions to be taken against Iran. He tweeted: "Grateful that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has stated that the USA will collapse Iran’s economy by shutting down its oil industry. Can’t happen soon enough!"

Later the same day, Wilson commented on the situation in Syria, focusing on President Bashar al-Assad and international involvement in the region. He stated: "The butcher Assad is attempting to restore power in Syria. Assad is hiding in Moscow and has Russian support. Iran has called on the people to revolt. Russia and Iran are working together to destabilize Syria. We need Russia and Iran out of Syria COMPLETELY!"

In another tweet posted on March 6, 2025, Wilson emphasized the importance of stability in Syria for U.S. interests. He noted: "A stable Syria is in the US interest. It enables voluntary refugee returns, prevents the resurgence of ISIS, curtails Iran and Russia’s influence, reduces narcotics trafficking & promotes regional peace. Forces seeking to destabilize Syria oppose these goals and won’t be backed!!"
