Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina's 2nd district since 2001, has recently expressed his views on international affairs through a series of tweets. Wilson, who succeeded Floyd Spence in Congress and previously served in the South Carolina Senate, shared his thoughts on Syria and Russia.
On March 6, 2025, Wilson conveyed his appreciation for the transitional government of Syria's commitment to dismantling chemical weapons. He described these weapons as having been used by "the butcher Assad" against civilians. Wilson noted that if this commitment is fulfilled, it would significantly benefit both the region and the world by eliminating a major threat from Syria. "Grateful that the transitional government of Syria has committed to destruction of the chemical weapons used by the butcher Assad to murder innocent Syrian civilians. If followed through on, will be a major benefit to the region and the world, removing a major threat from Syria."
Later that day, Wilson tweeted about Russia's involvement in Syria. He stated unequivocally that "Terrorist Russia must be fully removed from Syria," indicating his stance on Russia's presence in the conflict-ridden country. "Terrorist Russia must be fully removed from Syria"
In another tweet posted shortly after, Wilson expressed gratitude towards former President Donald Trump for imposing sanctions on Houthi leaders acquiring arms from Russia. He criticized Russia for arming and supporting terrorists globally. "Grateful to President Trump for sanctioning terrorist Houthi leaders procuring arms from Russia.
