Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina's 2nd district since 2001, recently shared his views on international issues through a series of tweets. Wilson, who has been vocal about foreign policy matters, addressed topics concerning Iraq's economic relations with Iran, Russia's influence in Europe, and the political situation in Iraq.
On February 16, 2025, Joe Wilson tweeted about Iraq's energy trade with Iran: "Iraq buys gas and electricity from Iran due to a waiver from U.S. sanctions. The upcoming waiver is ending in just a few weeks. The waiver must end permanently to prevent Iraq from sending funds to the terrorist regime in Iran which it will use to attack Americans."
Later that day, he commented on Russia's actions in Eastern Europe: "There is no 'Ukraine war.' There is Russia’s war. And War Criminal Putin is waging it beyond Ukraine. Through rigged elections, he installs puppets like Ivanishvili and Lukashenka. He is trying to do the same in Moldova, Romania, and other European countries."
On February 17, 2025, Wilson expressed his thoughts on Iranian influence in Iraq: "Iranian puppet and former Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki said yesterday 'the unrest that happened in Syria and Lebanon will happen in Iraq' He is right! Iranian domination can’t last Free Iraq from Iran"
