He stated that "The Iranian regime’s terror network and ability to move weapons in the region depends on a fractured Syria." He highlighted efforts by certain groups to support the Assad regime's drug trafficking operations while acknowledging the interim government's progress with historic agreements involving the SDF.

Later that day, Wilson commented on Russian Foreign Minister's reaction to President Trump's stance regarding Iran. He remarked that "Russian FM says he is disturbed and worried that President Trump made defunding Iranian terrorist militias a precondition to talks with Iran."
