City of Aiken issued the following announcement on February 15.
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department is pleased to announce the return of Story Time, a cherished reading program that promotes literacy in our community’s youth. The spring season begins on Tuesday, March 1, at 4:00 PM and continues every Tuesday afternoon in March, April, and May. Story Time is free to attend and is held on the grounds of Rye Patch, located at 100 Berrie Rd. This season our stories will highlight the importance of using your imagination, bravery, friendship, and much more!
Parents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket; snacks and drinks are welcome. Families will receive a free book to build their home library at every reading session. In addition,
families are encouraged to bring used books from home to help stock the Little Free Library in Hopelands Gardens. The Little Free Library, installed in April 2017, is a free book exchange that further encourages the mission of Story Time.
Story Time gracious sponsors: United Way of Aiken County; Rotary Club of Aiken; The Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch; Smith, Massey, Brodie, Guynn & Mayes, LLC.; Kitfox Pediatric Dentistry; Green Energy Biofuel; and Pediatric Therapy of Aiken.
Sponsorship opportunities for this upcoming spring season are still available for those who would like to promote literacy in young readers. If you are interested in being a sponsor for Story Time, contact Amber Coffey for more information at 803-643-2161.
In the event of inclement weather, Story Time will be held inside the Rye Patch Reception Center.
