University of South Carolina-Aiken issued the following announcement on February 15.

Aiken, SC (02/15/2022) — The University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) presents the next installment of the Oswald Distinguished Writer's Series (Oswald Series) scheduled for Thursday, March 17, with a special appearance by guest author Anthony Varallo. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Etherredge Center on the university campus. Admission is free of cost and open to the public. Masks will be required indoors.

Varallo will read aloud from his written works and hold a book signing at the event. He is the author of a novel, "The Lines" (University of Iowa Press), as well as four short story collections: "This Day in History," winner of the John Simmons Short Fiction Award; "Out Loud," winner of the Drue Heinz Literature Prize; "Think of Me and I'll Know" (Northwestern University Press/TriQuarterly Books); and "Everyone Was There," winner of the Elixir Press Fiction Award. Currently, he is a professor of English at the College of Charleston, where he teaches in the MFA Program in Creative Writing and serves as the fiction editor of "Crazyhorse".

Since its inception, the Oswald Series has been dedicated to extending the learning experience beyond the classroom by providing, free of charge, public readings of important contemporary poetry and prose to USC Aiken faculty, students, and members of the greater community. Dr. Andrew Geyer, USC Aiken English department chair, currently serves as the series organizer.

There will be an opportunity for members of the media to interview Varallo at 5:30 p.m., before the evening's event. Contact Katie Gantt at news@usca.edu or 803-641-3738 for more information.
