University of South Carolina-Aiken issued the following announcement on September 22.
Aiken, SC (09/22/2021) — The 12th annual Aiken-Augusta Wounded Warrior Charity Golf Classic (AAWWCGC) was held on Monday, September 20, at the Woodside Country Club in Aiken.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit local wounded warriors, CSRA veterans, and veteran organizations, including University of South Carolina Aiken's (UofSC Aiken) Bridge the Gap Scholarship for Veterans, Camp Gravatt Christmas Family Retreat, and Aiken Tech Student Sponsorships for Veterans.
The opening ceremony was at noon and featured ceremonial colors accompanied by a bagpipe melody. The tournament format was captain's choice with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
Robert Murphy, US Marine Corps Veteran, director of the office for veteran and military student success at UofSC Aiken, and AAWWCGC Board Member was pleased with the tournament's success, volunteers' spirit, and players' competitive enthusiasm. "It is hard to believe this tournament, over the last six years, has raised over $120,000 in scholarships for UofSC Aiken's military veteran students. We live in a generous and patriotic community."
Chick-fil-A donated box lunches, and Outback Steakhouse provided dinner. Janney Financial Advisors was the presenting sponsor.
