Joe Wilson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has made several statements on social media regarding international security concerns and Middle Eastern geopolitics. Wilson, who succeeded Floyd Spence in Congress and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001, expressed his views on various pressing issues through his Twitter account.

On March 12, 2025, Joe Wilson addressed the involvement of foreign powers in terrorist activities. He stated that "Assad & Russia directly armed Hamas, Houthi, and Hezbollah terrorists through Russian controlled bases in Syria, transferred Iranian regime arms & advanced systems through controlled ports, and trained terrorists on the ground who went on to kill Americans."

In another post on the same day, Wilson highlighted the plight of hostages held by Hamas. He tweeted that "There are 59 hostages, including Americans, still held by Hamas in horrific conditions. 35 are expected to return as remains." He emphasized that their families deserve more attention than individuals he described as "coward glorifying barbarism on American campuses."

Later that day, Wilson shared his optimism about peace efforts in the Middle East following a meeting with a fellow policymaker. He remarked "Grateful to meet with @azelin! We have a once in a generation opportunity to create sustainable peace in the Middle East. A Unified Syria without Russian or Iranian Presence is KEY!"
