Joe Wilson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina's 2nd district, has recently shared his views on international political matters through a series of tweets. Wilson, who succeeded Floyd Spence in 2001 and has been active in politics since serving in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001, used his platform to address issues concerning Tunisia, Iran, and Russia.
On January 31, 2025, Joe Wilson tweeted a brief message advocating for change in Tunisia: "Free Tunisia".
Later that day, Wilson commented on the geopolitical situation involving Iran. In his tweet at 19:46 UTC, he expressed concern over threats made by Iran’s regime against former President Donald Trump. He criticized the support given to Iran by Vladimir Putin and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), while praising Trump's "maximum pressure" strategy. He stated: "Iran’s regime continues to threaten @realDonaldTrump. War criminal Putin and CCP continue to support that regime. Through Trump’s successful maximum pressure, the Iranian regime will go bankrupt. We must provide maximum support to the people of Iran to achieve a free Iran."
In another tweet posted at 23:22 UTC on January 31st, Wilson addressed financial measures related to Russian assets frozen in Brussels' Euroclear system. He noted legislative efforts by Republicans and criticized President Biden for not acting on these assets. Wilson suggested that former President Trump could utilize these funds against Putin: "$350 billion in frozen Russian assets still sit in Euroclear in Brussels. Republicans passed legislation to confiscate them, but Biden never did. President Trump can use this money to counter War Criminal Putin."
