Aiken, SC (01/07/2022) — The Aiken Civic Orchestra (ACO) and members of the Aiken Composers Guild team up once again to present the concert, “New Year, New Voices.” This event will take place on Saturday, January 15, at 7:30 p.m., on the Etherredge Center main stage at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA). General admission is $20. Student admission is free. “New Year, New Voices” is the second collaboration of the Aiken Composers Guild and the ACO.

The Aiken Composers Guild was formed in 2018 by Dr. Richard Maltz, distinguished professor emeritus of music, with the mission of creating and promoting new music by composers from across Aiken and the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). Membership in the guild is open to students, faculty, and community members.

The ACO, directed by Adam DePriest, began in 2012 with the vision of providing an ensemble experience to local musicians across Aiken and the CSRA. It started as a volunteer string ensemble of 12 players. After five years of building a reputation among string players, ACO added winds, brass, and percussion to become a full, symphonic orchestra. In February of 2018, ACO became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. With an emphasis on featuring local talent, ACO performs about ten programs per season with music ranging from popular to masterpieces and even contemporary works, covering a dynamic range of composers.
