Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina's 2nd district since 2001, has expressed concerns through a series of tweets regarding international political developments. Wilson, who succeeded Floyd Spence in Congress and previously served in the South Carolina Senate, is known for his strong opinions on foreign policy.
On February 1, 2025, Wilson warned about what he describes as "Kais Saied’s authoritarian takeover of Tunisia." He stated that Tunisia has become "a full rule of gun police state working with the CCP, War Criminal Putin, and the Iranian regime." Wilson called for cutting aid and imposing sanctions while expressing confidence that former President Trump would address these issues. "I warned years ago about Kais Saied’s authoritarian takeover of Tunisia . Today sadly, Tunisia is a full rule of gun police state working with the CCP, War Criminal Putin, and the Iranian regime. We must cut aid & impose sanctions. Trump will fix it."
Later that day, Wilson criticized Tunisian leader Kais Saied for supporting Syria's Assad regime. He predicted a similar downfall for Saied as experienced by Assad and quoted an Arabic proverb to emphasize his point: “If the people want life, then it is certain destiny will respond.” "Tunisian dictator Kais Saied was a major supporter of the brutal Assad regime in Syria. Assad is not laughing anymore and Saied will go the way of Assad."
In another tweet on February 1st, Wilson urged an investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving Iranian puppets robbing Iraq's Rafidain bank while questioning why U.S. taxpayer dollars are directed to Iraq’s central bank. He criticized the U.S Treasury's role in this situation and again expressed confidence in Trump's ability to resolve these issues."I urge @DOGE to look into Iranian puppets which openly robbed Rafidain bank of $2.5 billion all while US taxpayer dollars go to Iraq’s central bank."
