JOB SHADOW DAY | Aiken County Public School District
AIKEN WORKS NATIONAL GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOW DAY
Aiken Works celebrated its 4th Annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Day earlier this month with a record 1,137 Aiken County Public School District students in grades 8-12 participating, the most ever for this event. Students spent the day shadowing professionals at 518 area businesses.
“Job Shadowing enriches the lives of our students by exposing them to on-the-job experiences,” shared Larry Millstead, Aiken Works Lead. “Students acquired a real world view of the type of career they are interested in for themselves. Opportunities like Job Shadow Day enhance our education process, by bringing the classroom/textbook information to life.”
Aiken Works partnered with Aiken Technical College this year to provide an opportunity for students interested in Health Science careers. The college hosted approximately 20 students, where they held presentations and offered tours specific to each student’s area of interest including Nursing, EMT, Radiology, Pharmacy Tech, and more.
“I believe this effort helps our young adults understand what they learn in the classroom leads to success in the workplace,” continued Millstead. “It also gives our businesses the opportunity to showcase skills needed by our future workforce.”
A huge THANK YOU to all of our Job Shadow Day hosts for helping to “Train Tomorrow’s Workforce."
