On Nov. 4, 2022, Southwestern Adventist University president Ana Patterson welcomed Sahmyook University president Il Mok Kim and director of international Education Jae Wook Yang to campus. They met to sign a three-year exchange agreement. Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, and Sahmyook University in Seoul, South Korea, both accredited by the Seventh-day Adventist Accrediting Association, are collaborating to enrich the educational experiences at both universities by providing exchange programs for students and professors.
"Southwestern Adventist University is honored to partner with Sahmyook University to expand opportunities for international education and research for students and faculty through this exchange agreement. We look forward to pursuing opportunities that enhance the academic experience through collaboration," said Patterson.
The presidents from both universities officially executed the exchange agreement at a formal signing ceremony in the president’s boardroom. After the signing, the guests enjoyed a performance by The University Singers. Kim and Yang thanked them and invited them to partner with Sahmyook’s music department for a joint concert. The Sahmyook representatives also toured Southwestern Adventist University’s campus, including the School of Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Center and the Dinosaur Science Museum and Research Center. The visit concluded after a luncheon in the Meadows Gallery of the Chan Shun Centennial Library.
Thinking academically, strategically, and spiritually, Kim said, “Both universities have the same mission and goal. This is the global age, so we need global cooperation so your school and our school can accomplish academic advancement and spiritual revival together.”
Southwestern Adventist University is grateful for this opportunity to broaden its mission globally for its students and professors to increase in knowledge, faith, and service through this partnership.
