3

University of South Carolina-Aiken issued the following announcement on March 8.

Aiken, SC (03/07/2022) — Mila Padgett, director of Campus Recreation & Wellness at the University of South Carolina Aiken, will serve as president of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) for the 2022-2023 term.

Padgett is honored at the opportunity to take such an active leadership role in an organization that serves approximately 8.1 million students. "NIRSA has been a constant in my life since my undergraduate years of working within our recreation facilities as a student employee," she said. "To say it is an honor to serve the organization in this way is an understatement."

NIRSA board members and officers consist of thought leaders within collegiate recreation. "As college and university students develop into future leaders, NIRSA members support their learning and growth by fostering lifelong habits of wellbeing. Leadership, teamwork, dedication, and respect are among the many skills exercised by inclusive competition, fitness, and recreation," according to the association's website.

"I believe that collegiate recreation has the ability to be the catalyst in transforming the health and wellbeing of its community," Padgett said. "That impact begins in college and then reaches beyond our walls into the communities our students choose to live, work, and play."
