Aiken County School District issued the following announcement on July 12.
Aiken County Public Schools has the most amazing educators! We have two teachers who are finalists in the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST)!
The PAEMST are the highest honors bestowed by the US government specifically for K-12 STEM and computer science teaching with only 108 exemplary teachers recognized across the United States annually. The award recognizes educators with both deep content knowledge and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas.
Congratulations to John Hostetler of Aiken High School for being named one of only three candidates from South Carolina!
The winner will be honored at an award ceremony in Washington, D.C., receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation, and participate in professional development opportunities and discussions with policy makers on how to improve science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science education.
We wish you the best of luck, Mr. Hostetler!
