Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently shared updates on legislative developments and meetings related to national security and foreign policy via his social media account.
On December 17, 2025, Wilson expressed gratitude for the Senate’s action regarding sanctions on Syria: “Grateful the Senate has passed FULL & COMPLETE repeal of Caesar sanctions by passing the FY26 NDAA. President Trump expected to sign in days. I told you Trump would fix it! Thank you @SenatorShaheen @USAMBTurkiye & Syrian Americans who NEVER gave up on FULL repeal. Make Syria”.
Later that day, Wilson highlighted his meeting with members of the South Carolina National Guard: “Grateful to meet with LTC Brunson DePass and members of the South Carolina National Guard as they answer President Trump’s call to help keep Washington, DC safe. Members of the Guard are true heroes acting selflessly to serve their communities and country each day.”
In a subsequent post, Wilson discussed a meeting focused on Iraq: “Grateful to host Mark Savaya, U.S. Special Envoy for Iraq, in my office for an important meeting on Iraq. I am excited to work with the Special Envoy to Make Iraq Great Again and Free Iraq from Iran. There couldn’t be anyone better working on this issue for President Trump!”
Wilson has been active in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to Congress. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, he holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
