Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently commented on historical events and diplomatic meetings in a series of tweets.
On August 23, 2025, Wilson reflected on the anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. He stated, “On this day in 1939, Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia entered into a sick alliance to conquer, divide, and enslave Central & Eastern Europe. A week later, these two countries would start WWII with their joint invasion of Poland. Russia still fails to acknowledge this historic crime”.
The following day, August 24, Wilson posted about his diplomatic engagements in Jordan alongside Senator Jeanne Shaheen. He wrote, “Grateful to meet along with @SenatorShaheen with Jordanian Foreign Minister @AymanHSafadi in Amman. Important discussions on strengthening stability and relations as well as supporting prosperity and peace for Syria .” Later that same day, he added another update: “Grateful to join @SenatorShaheen in meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan for an important discussion on strengthening our countries relations as well as the importance of peace, prosperity, and stability for Syria . Jordan is an essential ally of the United States!”
Wilson has been active in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
