Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, marked the anniversary of President Biden’s first year in office with a series of posts on his social media account. The tweets addressed domestic policy achievements, international crises, and expressions of support for foreign political leaders.
On January 20, 2026, Wilson wrote: “Today marks one year since @POTUS took office. I am grateful for his commitment to putting America first by securing the border, unleashing American energy, cutting taxes, creating jobs, and securing Peace Through Strength. Promises Made. Promises Kept.”
The following day, Wilson commented on unrest in Iran and Russia’s actions abroad: “Courageous Iranians are being slaughtered in streets, homes, and hospitals by the tens of thousands. The deranged terrorist regime that pledges death to America and Israel must be stopped. For 25 years, Putin has cried ‘poor Russia’ as HE invades sovereign countries and demands” (January 21, 2026).
Later that same day, Wilson expressed appreciation for Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado: “I was grateful to thank @MariaCorinaYA for her fearless leadership to support President Trump in building a free and democratic Venezuela. “ (January 21, 2026).
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001. Prior to his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
