Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently used his social media platform to praise former President Donald Trump’s foreign policy moves regarding Syria and broader international relations.

On August 11, 2025, Wilson wrote: “President Trump’s policy in Syria is a strategic master stroke. A UNIFIED STABLE Syria means boxing out Iran and ISIS and, working with NATO ally Türkiye, eventually expelling War Criminal Putin bases. A divided destabilized Syria means Libya/Somalia like anarchy in the”.

Two days later, on August 13, 2025, he posted about executive actions on export controls: “President Trump’s Executive Order calls on @CommerceGov @BISGov to waive export controls on Syria. President Trump was crystal clear. Every day these export controls remain on the books help China. I again encourage our friends to act quickly.”

Later that same day, Wilson expanded his comments to include other aspects of Trump’s foreign policy: “President Trump’s foreign policy is a triumph. He is boxing out Putin all over the world. He is forcing Putin to the States and meeting from a POSITION OF STRENGTH – Peace between Armenia & Azerbaijan – Lifting sanctions on Syria – Secondary sanctions on Russian oil purchases”.

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District in Congress for over two decades after replacing Floyd Spence in 2001. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
