Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001 and a former member of the South Carolina Senate, posted several messages on his Twitter account commemorating significant historical anniversaries and expressing gratitude to the U.S. Air Force.
On September 17, 2025, Wilson recognized Constitution Day and Citizenship Day by stating: “Happy Constitution Day and Citizenship Day! Today marks 238 years since the delegates at the Constitutional Convention signed the U.S. Constitution. We celebrate the rights of all Americans and congratulate those who have become U.S. citizens.”
Later that same day, Wilson referenced World War II history in another post: “On this day in 1939, Soviet Russia invaded Poland, only two weeks after Nazi Germany – starting WWII together in an effort to conquer, divide, and enslave Europe. As Russia today attacks Poland, we must remember how Russia started WWII by attacking Poland!!”
On September 18, 2025, Wilson marked the anniversary of the United States Air Force with a message of appreciation: “Happy 78th Birthday to the @usairforce. I am grateful for the brave men and women who have served and are currently serving to keep America safe. #FlyFightWin”
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd congressional district since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947, he resides in Springdale and holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
