Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently used his social media platform to highlight legislative changes and comment on international affairs.
On January 14, 2026, Wilson posted about the approaching tax deadline and the impact of recent legislation: “As the April tax deadline approaches, the Republican-led Working Families Tax Cuts law will allow Americans to keep more money, including no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on social security. Promises Made. Promises Kept.”
Later that same day, Wilson addressed political developments in Uganda: “On Thursday the illegitimate dictator of Uganda Yoweri Museveni will attempt to cling to the Presidency he assumed in 1986. During his last ‘election’ he shut off the internet, restricted access to the polls, and restricted opposition. This year he decides to beat his chest”.
On January 15, 2026, Wilson referenced a speech he delivered in Congress: “I spoke on the House floor about how the Working Families Tax Cuts law is reversing harmful Biden-era regulations and putting more money in the pockets of American families. The law is delivering real results for hardworking families including expanding childcare access, keeping”.
Wilson’s remarks come as he continues a long tenure in public service. He has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
