Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted a series of updates on September 18, 2025, highlighting recent legislative and diplomatic activities.

On his official X account, Wilson announced a historic visit by a Syrian delegation to Congress. He wrote on September 18: “I was honored to host Syrian FM @AsaadHShaibani, the first Syria delegation to visit Congress in 25 years. President Trump’s leadership has ushered in a historic opportunity for a new chapter, benefitting ALL. Congress must now act: fully repeal the Caesar Act.”

Later that day, Wilson shared his participation in an event supporting U.S. service members: “I was grateful to join House colleagues to help assemble care packages for service members currently on deployment around the world. Since 1941, @The_USO has strengthened America’s service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service” (September 18).

In another post on September 18, Wilson highlighted legislative progress related to foreign policy: “I am so grateful that my GEORGIAN NIGHTMARE NON-RECOGNITION amendment has been ADOPTED for inclusion the State Department Authorization Act! Insulting America while embracing Communist China, Iran & Russia is a one-way ticket to isolation.”

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and residing in Springdale, he holds degrees from Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina.
