Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently posted a series of statements on his social media regarding key legislative developments and international concerns.

On December 10, 2025, Wilson marked the anniversary of a significant event in Syria, stating: “Grateful to speak on the floor about the first anniversary of the fall of the brutal Assad regime. In hours the House will vote on NDAA which includes a FULL repeal of Caesar sanctions! Grateful for ⁦@USAMBTurkiye⁩ ⁦@SenatorShaheen⁩ efforts to make this possible!” He highlighted the impending House vote on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included provisions for repealing sanctions related to Syria.

Later that day, Wilson addressed allegations involving Russian sanction evasion: “It is outrageous that the husband of the GD regime appointed ambassador to U.S. is reportedly helping Russia to evade U.S. sanctions meant to cripple Putin’s war machine. @USTreasury should look into this, and I look forward to following up.” He called for further investigation by the U.S. Treasury into these reports.

In another statement on December 10, Wilson expressed appreciation after legislative action in Congress: “Grateful that the House of Representatives passed the FULL repeal of the Caesar Act as part of the NDAA. I was grateful to introduce the House legislation for full repeal back in May and to lead efforts in the House for the past six months. Grateful for the support of President” The message emphasized his role in sponsoring and advancing legislation aimed at repealing U.S. sanctions under the Caesar Act.

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to Congress. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and University of South Carolina (JD).
