Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted a series of updates on August 28, 2025, regarding his diplomatic activities and statements related to Lebanon, Tunisia, and Israel.
In a tweet posted at 13:26 UTC on August 28, Wilson wrote: “Grateful to join @SenatorShaheen @USAmbTurkiye @MorganOrtagus @LindseyGrahamSC for important meetings with leaders in Lebanon to promote vision of the Trump administration and bicameral bipartisan Congress for stability, prosperity and independence for the people of Lebanon.”
Later that day at 16:17 UTC, Wilson addressed responses from Tunisian officials to his recent correspondence: “I am grateful for the response of a number of members of the FAKE Tunisian Parliament to my letter yesterday including Ms Fatma Mseddi. Unfortunately, not a single one of the letters in response requested an end to US taxpayer assistance to Tunisia . It seems all are TERRIFIED”.
At 17:13 UTC on the same day, Wilson referenced a joint statement with other U.S. lawmakers concerning Israeli military actions in Syria: “We call on Israel to seize the moment and immediately cease hostilities so the progress made by Syrians and @USAmbTurkiye can continue.”
Wilson’s career in public service spans several decades. He began serving as South Carolina’s representative in Congress after replacing Floyd Spence in 2001. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to federal office.[source] Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale,[source] Wilson earned degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).[source]
