Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently made several statements on social media regarding legislative actions and foreign policy issues.
On September 8, 2025, Wilson wrote: “Grateful to testify before the House Rules Committee in support of my amendment to repeal the Caesar Act in the NDAA! It’s time to give Syria a chance and I hope the Committee will allow my amendment.”
The following day, he addressed proposed changes to military authorization legislation: “As I have said for years, repealing the 2002 AUMF would tie the President’s hands in going after Iranian puppet militias in Iraq, endangering American families. This is the same provision that President Trump used for the authority to kill terrorist leader Qassem Soleimani.” (September 9, 2025).
Later that morning, Wilson announced progress on another amendment: “Grateful to share this amendment was Made in Order by House Rules Committee this morning. Free Imran Khan!” (September 9, 2025).
Wilson has served as a member of Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously held office in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to Congress. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina.
