Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, shared updates on a series of diplomatic meetings and events during the United Nations General Assembly in late September 2025.
On September 24, Wilson posted about his meeting with Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, stating: “Grateful to meet the Foreign Minister of Rwanda Olivier Nduhungirehe on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss President Trump’s successful peace negotiation between Rwanda and Congo!”
Later that day, Wilson reported another diplomatic engagement: “Grateful to meet the Foreign Minister II of Brunei Erywan bin Haji Mohd Yusof on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly for important discussions regarding the Indo Pacific region as well as the situation in Georgia and Syria and other issues.”
On September 25, Wilson attended a reception at the UN General Assembly hosted by President Trump. He wrote: “Grateful to be with Secretary of State @MarcoRubio along with Syrian President Ahmad AlSharaa at President Trump’s wonderful reception at UNGA.”
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina.
