Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, made several statements on social media regarding U.S. policy toward Iran and Syria on October 9 and 10, 2025.
On October 9, Wilson commented on recent U.S. government actions against Iranian-backed groups, stating, “The Muhandis Group is a front to launder terrorism. The Iranian militia business conglomerate was founded to fund the terrorist militias in Iraq giving them power to dominate Iraq’s economy. Later that day, he posted a brief message naming individuals and organizations linked to Iran’s influence in Iraq: “Hadi Ameri Badr Corps Al-Rafidain Bank Free Iraq from Iran @StateDept @SebGorka @USTreasury”.
On October 10, Wilson addressed recent developments regarding U.S. sanctions on Syria, writing, “Grateful the Senate has passed a REPEAL of the Caesar Act as part of the NDAA! These very severe sanctions were imposed on a regime which, thankfully, no longer exists. Syria’s success now depends on FULL & TOTAL repeal.”
Wilson, who was born in Charleston in 1947 and resides in Springdale, South Carolina, has served in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001. He previously held office in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Wilson graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1969 and earned his JD from the University of South Carolina in 1972.
