Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted a series of statements on July 16, 2025, addressing foreign policy in Syria, economic conditions under the current administration, and national defense legislation.
In a post made at 17:08 UTC, Wilson commented on ongoing conflict in Syria: “I support President Trump’s efforts to de-escalate the situation in Syria. Israel’s unnecessary strikes must cease immediately. The strikes benefit Iran, the CCP, and war criminal Putin. Suicidal for Israel. Also, there must be accountability for sectarian crimes. Separatist drug”.
Later that day at 17:54 UTC, Wilson discussed economic improvements he attributes to the current administration: “I spoke on the House floor about how under the leadership of @POTUS, America is beating inflation, leading to lower costs, higher pay, and job creation. American families are experiencing an increase in real income, gas prices have fallen, and everyday costs are down for items https://t.co/JdktdBeow4”.
At 21:32 UTC on July 16th, Wilson praised legislative progress regarding national defense: “Grateful for the leadership of @RepMikeRogersAL in passing this year’s NDAA out of @HASCRepublicans. The bill continues to support @POTUS’ Peace Through Strength agenda by modernizing our nuclear and defense capabilities. I secured wins for the 2nd Congressional District of South”.
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd district since replacing Floyd Spence in Congress in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
