Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently addressed several key issues on his social media account, including Middle East policy, government funding, and religious observance.
On September 29, 2025, Wilson expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s approach to foreign policy in the Middle East. He stated: “I fully share President Trump’s vision of peace and prosperity in the Middle East, ending constant war, which benefits those acting against American interests. Hamas and its backers should accept this good-faith effort, supported by allies and partners in the region. Grateful”.
Two days later, on October 1, 2025, Wilson commented on the recent government shutdown and his vote regarding government funding: “A government shutdown is irresponsible. I joined House Republicans in voting to avoid a shutdown. House Democrats voted ’no,’ leading to a shutdown. This vital legislation pays the salaries of our military and supports the needs of their families. Defunding the government”.
Later that day, he acknowledged Yom Kippur with a message directed at those observing the holiday: “I wish meaningful prayer and an easy fast to all those observing Yom Kippur.”
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd district since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
