Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has posted several statements on his social media account regarding international affairs and appointments.
On December 8, 2025, Wilson extended his support to the people of Syria on the anniversary of what he referred to as “Free Syria.” He wrote: “Best wishes to the people of Syria on the 1st anniversary of Free Syria. Criminal Assad is in Moscow and the people of Syria are returning to their families to rebuild and Make Syria Great Again, thanks to the leadership of President Trump and President al-Sharaa. God bless the”.
The following day, December 9, 2025, Wilson endorsed former Republican Study Committee Chair Mark Walker for an ambassadorial post. He stated: “My friend & colleague, former @RepublicanStudy Chair @RepMarkWalker will make an amazing Ambassador for International Religious Freedom. The Senate needs to back President Trump and move quickly to confirm him. Religious freedom is under threat globally & can’t wait another day.”
Later that same day, Wilson praised U.S. leadership in Iraq and called for a shift in policy regarding Iran-backed militias. He said: “I appreciate the leadership of President Trump and his Special Envoy for Iraq, Mark Savaya, who has declared he wants to Make Iraq Great Again and made clear to Iraq that business as usual in supporting Iran-backed militias will not be tolerated. The time has come to free Iraq”.
Wilson’s public service record includes over two decades in Congress after succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001. Before joining Congress, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to federal office. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
