Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted a series of tweets on July 27 and 28, 2025, addressing international affairs and commemorating historical events.

On July 27, Wilson marked the anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement by stating, “72 years ago today, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, ending the Korean War. We recognize, remember, and honor the bravery of those who served, were wounded, and made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The following day, Wilson criticized Georgia’s ruling party in a tweet: “The anti-American Georgian Dream party again pays tribute to Communist China which it has described as the ‘superpower to emulate.’ MEGOBARI needed to keep access to Middle Corridor trade & critical minerals & help Georgians preserve their hard-won freedom” (July 28).

Later on July 28, Wilson commented on developments in Iraq’s Kurdistan region: “I was grateful on Friday to speak to my dear friend the Foreign Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq. Iranian militias launch more drones today against our appreciated friends in the KRG. Sadly taxpayer dollars fund Baghdad which fund terrorist militias which”.

Wilson has been active in U.S. politics for decades. Before his tenure in Congress began in 2001 when he succeeded Floyd Spence, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD). His legislative focus often includes foreign policy matters relevant to U.S. interests abroad.
