Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently used his social media platform to comment on a range of international issues. On August 6, 2025, Wilson made three posts addressing U.S. foreign policy and human rights concerns.
In his first post at 15:20 UTC, Wilson expressed support for the administration’s actions regarding energy sanctions: “Grateful for President Trump’s POWERFUL executive order targeting India’s purchases of Russian oil. Russian oil fuels war criminal Putin’s war machine! Smart move will provide leverage to end the war responsibly https://t.co/FRLVH0zIB8”.
Later that day at 15:48 UTC, Wilson endorsed calls for political reform in Pakistan: “I agree with my colleague
Pakistan must free the political prisoners especially Imran Khan https://t.co/VdlshdLhIK“.
At 17:40 UTC on the same day, he commented on developments in Georgia: “The anti-American Georgian Dream regime has wrongly sentenced journalist Mzia Amaglibeli to two years in prison. The regime is banning freedom of speech and opposition parties in order to further its goal of selling the country to Communist China. MEGOBARI needed!!”.
Wilson has been an active member of Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947, he resides in Springdale and holds degrees from Washington and Lee University and the University of South Carolina.
