Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently made several statements on international and domestic issues through his social media account.
On July 17, 2025, Wilson addressed concerns about the Polisario Front, stating “The Polisario is a terrorist organization and the next Houthis in waiting if we do not prevent the threat. Grateful for the important conversation with @zriboua https://t.co/vVLqPCFzhC”.
Later that day, he commented on federal efforts to combat drug trafficking: “.@POTUS and @AGPamBondi are addressing the dangerous fentanyl crisis with forceful action by administering successful seizures around the country, including in South Carolina. I’m grateful the HALT Fentanyl Act was signed into law yesterday, as it will further strengthen law”. The statement highlights recent legislative measures aimed at curbing fentanyl distribution across the United States.
On July 18, 2025, Wilson discussed Middle East tensions: “Israel’s strikes on Syria are suicidal. The real enemy is Tehran. Israel and Syria should work together. President Trump will deescalate the situation. Grateful to speak to @FoxNews. https://t.co/iAp4yZLCGU”.
Wilson has served in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously represented his constituency in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
