Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has commented on recent international developments through a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On August 28, 2025, Wilson expressed appreciation for the Bureau of Industry and Security’s decision regarding Syria: “Grateful to @BISGov for taking action to remove export controls on U.S. origin goods, software and technology that have purely civilian uses, consumer communications and certain civil aviation items to Syria. This will be a key step to Make Syria Great Again, bring prosperity to https://t.co/a5D8DZx4My”.
Later the same day, Wilson addressed Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and referenced North Korean involvement: “War criminal Putin has no interest in ending HIS war, even as he sends waves of Russians (and now North Koreans) to die for his pathetic delusions of recreating the failed Soviet Union. First Lady Melania Trump is correct, the bombs come at night. Maternity wards, churches,”.
In another post on August 28, Wilson welcomed actions taken by European partners concerning Iran: “Grateful that our European partners have triggered the snapback mechanism reimposing all UN sanctions on the Iranian regime! This is the first time in a decade since full UN sanctions have been imposed on Iran! Iran’s regime is on the ropes and the Iranian people will soon show”.
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District in Congress since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to federal office. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
