Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, expressed appreciation for several American and international officials in a series of posts on September 24, 2025.
In one post, Wilson acknowledged the appointment of Michael G. Waltz as Ambassador to the United Nations: “Grateful to see our amazing Ambassador to the United Nations in his first week on the job, my incredible former colleague @MichaelGWaltz representing America on the world stage!” (September 24, 2025).
Later that day, Wilson highlighted a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs: “Grateful to see Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Adel Jubair. Saudi Arabia is key to stabilizing the region and its efforts are appreciated especially in helping to rebuild Syria and fight terrorism.” (September 24, 2025).
He also commented on Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s leadership: “Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is leading the way promoting American jobs and American companies. I also appreciate his hard work lifting the export controls on Syria.” (September 24, 2025).
Wilson has been an active figure in U.S. politics for decades. He replaced Floyd Spence in Congress in 2001 after serving in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to that year. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson graduated from Washington and Lee University before earning a law degree from the University of South Carolina.
