Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, used his social media platform on August 4, 2025, to comment on several national and international topics.
In an early post that day, Wilson marked the anniversary of a key branch of the armed forces: “Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard. I am grateful to all of the brave men and women who protect our nation’s coasts and inland waterways – and have done so for 235 years.” (August 4, 2025).
Later in the evening, Wilson addressed ongoing political unrest abroad: “For 250 consecutive days, the brave Georgian people have protested against the anti-American Georgian Dream regime. They demand an end to this regime’s total sellout of their country to Communist China, the terrorist regime in Tehran, and war criminal Putin. We need MEGOBARI!” (August 4, 2025).
He concluded his series of posts with commentary on former President Donald Trump’s record in foreign affairs: “There has never been a peacemaker President like Donald Trump
• Congo and Rwanda
• Thailand and Cambodia
• Pakistan and India
And soon Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize!!!!” (August 4, 2025).
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District since succeeding Floyd Spence in Congress in 2001. Before joining Congress, he served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to federal office. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
