Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, announced a congressional hearing on Russia’s presence in Syria and commented on both international and local issues in a series of posts on his social media account.

On February 2, 2026, Wilson stated: “Looking forward to chair this hearing TOMORROW at 2:30 PM in 360 Cannon House Office Building on HOW TO KICK RUSSIA OUT OF SYRIA . Removing Russia from Syria can and will happen and the hearing will explore the way forward to finally make this happen. Make Syria Great Again”. The post referred to an upcoming hearing he would be chairing regarding efforts to remove Russian forces from Syria.

The following day, Wilson made further remarks about Russian actions in the Middle East and Ukraine. On February 3, he wrote: “War Criminal Putin destroyed Aleppo as a prelude to the destruction of Ukrainian cities like Mariupol and Bucha. War Criminal Putin gives harbor to butcher Assad in Moscow and senior Assadist leaders including his exiled spy chief and billionaire cousin who plot for new”.

Also on February 3, Wilson highlighted economic achievements within his home state under current leadership: “I spoke on the House floor about how grateful I am that under the leadership of @henrymcmaster, South Carolina has had an historic year of over $900 billion of investments, creating 8,000 jobs. South Carolina succeeds with Governor McMaster, Republican super majorities in the”.

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd district since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to Congress. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson is an alumnus of Washington and Lee University (BA) and holds a JD from the University of South Carolina.
