Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently made several statements on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy through his social media account.
On September 2, 2025, Wilson announced the introduction of new legislation aimed at supporting democracy in Tunisia. In his post, he stated: “Grateful to introduce the BIPARTISAN Tunisia Democracy Restoration Act with @RepJasonCrow to support democracy in Tunisia and impose sanctions on Tunisian officials involved in human rights abuses. Later that day, Wilson delivered a speech expressing gratitude for recent developments in the Middle East. He wrote: “My one minute speech today thanking @POTUS @realDonaldTrump for the peace and prosperity in the Middle East being implemented by American Patriot @USAMBTurkiye Tom Barrack I witnessed firsthand last week in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.” (September 2, 2025).
On September 3, 2025, Wilson addressed U.S. policy toward Serbia and Russia. He posted: “The United States should enforce sanctions on Serbia’s Russian-owned oil company IMMEDIATELY. Serbian President Vucic spoke in Russian when meeting with war criminal Putin yesterday to plead for Moscow to continue its political and energy support. Vucic needs Putin as he lives in”.
Wilson has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously represented constituents as a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson earned degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD). His recent posts reflect ongoing engagement with international issues relevant to U.S. foreign policy.
