Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted a series of messages on his social media accounts in December 2025 addressing religious freedom, national security, and developments in Iraq.

On December 19, Wilson wrote: “As Christmas approaches, families around the world gather to celebrate. However, it is also important that we reflect on those not free to worship. America was founded that faith should be practiced freely, not state subverted. We honor the spirit of Christmas and the values of https://t.co/7ohDpChKBs”.

The following day, December 20, he expressed gratitude for military personnel: “I am grateful to the men and women of the U.S. Space Force for their role in safeguarding our national security. The work they do to counter growing threats in this domain is critical in preserving Peace Through Strength. Happy Birthday. https://t.co/QxRV5UOxBH”.

Later on December 20, Wilson commented on developments in Iraq: “Today, the corrupt president of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council publicly thanked armed factions for their stated intention to disarm.

This language does not reflect the conduct of a state institution nor that of a neutral judiciary. Instead, it clearly shows a communication”.

Wilson has served as a member of Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously held office in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
