Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, has recently made several statements on social media regarding international affairs and U.S. foreign policy.

On January 30, 2026, Wilson expressed gratitude for diplomatic efforts in Syria, stating: “Grateful to President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and @USAmbTurkiye Tom Barrack for their tireless efforts in achieving this historic peace deal which will save lives and bring a better future for all Syrian communities.”

Later that day, he commented on developments in Georgia related to Russia’s activities during the conflict in Ukraine. He wrote: “Outrageous! While Ukrainians fight for their lives, there is a new report about how Ivanishvili’s puppet regime is turning Georgian ports into a playground for Putin’s shadow fleet. Turning off AIS trackers to move blood oil is complicity in war crimes.”

On January 31, 2026, Wilson addressed Iranian influence in Iraq with a direct message: “To Iran’s puppets in Iraq and to Nouri Maliki: You are insulting President Trump. Try that out, test your luck, and see what happens Free Iraq from Iran Free Iran”

Wilson has served as South Carolina’s representative since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously held office in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
