Joe Wilson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted several statements on his social media account on August 7, 2025, addressing international conflicts and commemorating National Purple Heart Day.
In one post from August 7, Wilson commented on the ongoing occupation of Georgian territories by Russia. He wrote, “17 years on, Russia still illegally occupies Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Georgians will never surrender their sovereignty and territorial integrity—not to Russia and not to the Communist Chinese Georgian Dream puppet regime.”
Later that day, Wilson congratulated former President Donald Trump for diplomatic efforts in the Caucasus region. In his tweet at 13:46 UTC, he stated, “Congratulations to our great Peacemaker President Donald Trump who is not only bringing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but secured an incredible strategic transit corridor for the USA: the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. Bravo!”
Wilson also marked National Purple Heart Day with a message recognizing military service members from his district. He posted at 15:21 UTC: “Today is National Purple Heart Day, a time to honor the heroism of those who have been wounded or killed in combat defending our nation. The Second District of South Carolina is recognized as a Purple Heart District. If you are looking to obtain medals that you earned but never”
Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd district in Congress since replacing Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
