U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, representing South Carolina’s 2nd district, posted a series of tweets on August 14, 2025, addressing topics ranging from foreign policy in the South Caucasus to domestic law enforcement meetings and U.S. funding for Iraq.
In a tweet published at 21:59 UTC, Wilson commented on Georgia’s approach to international energy investment and regional peace efforts: “The anti-American Georgian Dream regime boasts on their own propaganda station of seeking energy “investment” from the Chinese Communist Party. China trying to lock the USA out of the Middle Corridor. Armenia-Azerbaijan peace is a huge step but South Caucasus peace and prosperity”.
Later that evening at 23:02 UTC, Wilson described his participation in a meeting with colleagues and law enforcement officials in Greenville: “Hosted by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, I was grateful to join my House Republican colleagues @RepTimmons, @RepSheriBiggs, and @RepRussellFry in Greenville for a meeting with the extraordinary @AGPamBondi, beloved in South Carolina, and professional law enforcement”.
At 23:20 UTC on the same day, Wilson raised concerns about Iraq’s financial practices related to terrorist organizations: “Iraq’s state owned Rafidain bank is processing payments for the Houthis, a terrorist organization! We have a name describing these types of counties – state sponsors of terrorism. I will work to cut funding to Iraq during the upcoming appropriations legislation. I urge”.
Joe Wilson has served as U.S. Representative since 2001 after succeeding Floyd Spence; prior to his tenure in Congress he was a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1985 until his election to federal office. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, Wilson holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
