Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, posted several statements on social media addressing recent events of national and international significance.

On January 24, 2026, Wilson expressed appreciation for federal support in response to an impending ice storm affecting the Carolinas. He wrote, “I want to thank President Donald Trump for his call this afternoon regarding approval of Governor Henry McMaster’s request for emergency preparedness aid for South and North Carolina to address the impending and potentially life threatening ice storm. His support is greatly”.

Three days later, on January 27, 2026, Wilson marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by highlighting its importance as a day of reflection and opposition to hatred. In his post he stated, “Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day that honors both the survivors and victims of the Holocaust and acts as an important reminder that hatred has no place in the world.”

On the same day, Wilson addressed developments concerning Russia’s military presence in Syria. He commented on his role overseeing related discussions: “Grateful to chair this hearing on removing Russia’s bases from Syria. The new Syrian government has shown enormous promise and been a great partner to President Trump. The removal of Russia will secure the region and hinder Russia’s ability to continue chaos in Africa and the”.

Wilson has represented South Carolina’s 2nd District since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001 after previously serving in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale, he holds degrees from Washington and Lee University (BA) and the University of South Carolina (JD).
