Joe Wilson, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently addressed a range of topics on his social media account, including the anniversary of Dr. Majd Kamalmaz’s disappearance, Ramadan greetings, and transatlantic relations.
On February 16, 2026, Wilson marked the ninth anniversary of Dr. Majd Kamalmaz’s disappearance with a statement: “Nine years ago, beloved American and respected psychologist, Dr. Majd Kamalmaz, disappeared. Taken by the brutal Assad regime while visiting an elderly family member. His legacy of dedication and peace lives on, and we continue to pursue justice and closure for his family.”
Two days later, on February 18, Wilson extended holiday wishes to Muslim communities: “I would like to wish a Happy Ramadan for all Muslims in South Carolina, the U.S., and around the world. Ramadan Mubarak.”
On February 19, Wilson commented on transatlantic cooperation amid ongoing global conflicts: “.@SecRubio nails it. Europe and the USA belong together. We have a common civilization and a common destiny. Together, we will bring Russia’s war on Ukraine to a responsible end and reinvigorate the West.”
Wilson has served in Congress since succeeding Floyd Spence in 2001 and previously represented his state in the South Carolina Senate from 1985 to 2001. Born in Charleston in 1947 and currently residing in Springdale at age 75, he is an alumnus of Washington and Lee University (BA) and holds a JD from the University of South Carolina.
