Edgefield Post-Acute earned an overall rating of 4 out of 5 for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports. This rating exceeds the statewide average of 3.0 for nursing homes in South Carolina.

The facility had 120 available beds, which is 15 more than the state average in South Carolina during the first quarter of 2026. An average of 108.7 residents were cared for at the center during that time.

Edgefield Post-Acute reported no fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau data shows the nation’s population of older adults keeps rising, while the number of younger individuals declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans aged 65 and older increased by 13%, whereas the group under 18 dipped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult population has expanded rapidly, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.

A 2021 analysis indicates that about half of individuals age 65 and older—nearly 28 million—will likely require long-term services and supports. The report also estimates that over a third may eventually need care in a nursing facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
