Joe Wilson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001, recently took to social media to commemorate significant historical events and extend festive greetings. He stated: “On the House floor I recognized that tomorrow – June 6th – marks 81 years since 160,000 Allied troops surprised the enemy launching the D-Day invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 10,000 Americans and Allies were killed or wounded on D-Day, all in the name of”.
The following day, June 6, he continued to honor this historic event by acknowledging its significance: “On this day in 1944, 160,000 Allied troops confronted Nazi forces on the French coastline reshaping the war in the name of freedom. Let us honor all those heroes of D-Day who bravely fought and supported this monumental effort particularly those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Also on June 6, Wilson extended warm wishes to his Muslim friends worldwide celebrating Eid: “Best wishes and Eid Mubarak to Muslim friends celebrating around the world!”
As a long-serving congressman born in Charleston in 1947 and residing in Springdale today, Joe Wilson continues to engage with historical commemorations and cultural festivities alike.
