The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department Senior Commission is excited to host a free Senior Caregiver Event. Join us for a chance to Refresh, Renew, and Re-educate with caregivers on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Aiken Senior Life Services – 1310 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC.

The Senior Caregiver Event offers a tremendous opportunity to connect with the many services, programs, and support available in the Aiken community. Participants will have an option to visit all sponsor’s booths, which include over 15 area businesses. As you visit sponsor booths, ask questions regarding their services and facilities.

In addition, all registered participants will be able to attend 45-minute educational sessions on caregiving. The speakers are as follows:

Janet B. Altman, the Seniors Ministry Coordinator at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, is a native of Lumberton, North Carolina, and grew up in the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA). Janet was the Executive Director of the South Carolina Respite Coalition and previously worked for two assisted living and memory care communities as Marketing Director, Dementia Dialogues® Instructor, and Life Enrichment Coordinator.

Suzanne Denmark, Program Director of Day One Fitness, will present helpful exercises and movement tips to help seniors move through life safely and independently. Day One Fitness helps seniors fight neurological conditions by challenging expectations and empowering them to lead their best life.

Jane Jenkins Herlong, a recent inductee into the Speaker Hall of Fame, crisscrosses the country sharing her sweet tea wisdom and Southern Fried humor. Her witticisms help others learn the healing power of humor when handling negative people and circumstances for more productive, positive living. Jane’s stories leave audiences with the same message- “prove people wrong and laugh while living your dreams.” After graduating from Columbia College and continuing to graduate school, Jane travels to speaking events worldwide.

Registration is now open. Participants can register by calling 803-648-5447.

Thank you to our 2022 Senior Caregiver Event sponsors, Aiken Senior Life Services, Benton House, and DayBreak Adult Care Services.
